Many thanks to venue sponsor Yahoo! Latin America and to our three panelists from Yahoo!, Nokia and Vivo, for having made our June monthly meetup of MobileMonday Miami a very successful event!

The presenters/discussants on the topic of mobile delivery of news and information content to an audience variously estimated at around 60 or more were: Mariano Zadeh, Mobile Business Development Lead, Yahoo! Latin America; Mônica Moreira de Magalhães, Director of Products & Services, Partner Management for Bazil’s largest mobile carrier, Vivo; and Saulo Passos, Communications & Social Media Manager, Nokia Latin America.
In attendance were dozens of professionals in mobility, technology and related fields, who came from as far north as Palm Beach and as near as right down the street in Coral Gables. The standing room-only audience of individual service providers and executives with companies large and small were representative of the growing South Florida mobile eco-system and included, among others: Nortel, MobilCash, Motorola, Global Roaming, Moblog, Narian Technologies, RIM, FutMob, EFICI, Mobility World, Axxis Solutions, Boxkite … and, of course, Yahoo! and Nokia.
In addition, we were privileged to extend MoMo Miami hospitality to mobile professionals from throughout Latin America and the U.S. attending the two-day-long Mobile Commerce Americas 2009 conference, presented by Frecuencia Latinoamerica at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables.
After the panel and refreshments generously provided by Yahoo!, networking continued down the street at Novecento, courtesy of “happy hour” pricing extended to MoMo Miami meetup attendees throughout the rest of the evening!
Mobile Mondays Chicago is looking for a host sponsor(s) for our July, August, and September meetings. We would request that the space accommodate 25-50 people and offer a projector system for presenters. Downtown Chicago is strongly preferred.
In addition, we are looking for event sponsor(s) to cover costs for the remaining 2009 meetings. Modest catering and refreshments costs are typically between $200 - $250 per meeting.
Again, many thanks to our recent hosts & sponsors!

International mobile marketing and development company MSCorp, based in Coral Springs, has announced the launch of its new Open Ovi blog, which it says will be an independent consumer-oriented service designed to create visibility for the different services offered on the Nokia Ovi portal, particularly in the Americas region.
MSCorp CEO and founder Policarpo Guerrero said in an e-mail alert yesterday that the idea of the new blog is “to cover Ovi services beyond just the Ovi store,” adding …
As you probably know, Ovi is a collection of integrated services, and this requires a lot of evangelization in order to create awareness and the critical mass needed for viable businesses. Our mission is to offer a one stop reference place for all things Ovi where we can share information, views and experiences.
MSCorp develops and manages mobile solutions, from mobilized websites to content sharing, gaming arenas, mobile widgets and m-blogging. The company is a member of the Forum Nokia global developer community. Ovi Store is the new Nokia app store launched this week in tandem with shipment of Nokia’s new N97 touchscreen device.
According to Guerrero, the new Open Ovi blog will cover a number of topics, grouped around Flash Lite content and Apps available on the Ovi Store, Mapplets and new apps available from Ovi Maps, connectivity tools available through Ovi and news on Forum Nokia developer initiatives and tools.
Broward County commissioners have voted to give a $125,000 incentive to a subsidiary of FoxConn International in exchange for a pledge to build out corporate headquarters and create 150 new full-time jobs in Sunrise, according to a South Florida Business Journal story published online.
In exchange for the incentive, FoxConn subsidiary S&B Industry has pledged to invest $17.3 million “to renovate and build out new corporate headquarters and operations facilities,” located at 1551 Sawgrass Corporate Parkway.
If S&B actually meets the 150-new-job target, said the news report, it potentially could receive $850,000 in combined incentives from Broward County, the city of Sunrise and the State of Florida.
As the Business Journal pointed out:
S&B/Foxconn is part of a growing technology cluster in Sunrise that includes Scottsdale, Ariz.-based General Dynamics C4 Systems (NYSE: GD) and Canada-based Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM). The companies sprung up in Sunrise in spring 2008 after Motorola laid off about 300 workers – mostly engineers working on next-generation wireless technology – from its Plantation facility.
Both S&B and FoxConn are wholly owned by Chinese computer and electronics giant Hon Hai Precision Ltd, based in Taiwan.
The last MoMoVan before the summer break will take place on Monday, June 22 at Nokia in Burnaby.
We will have our joint WINBC/Wavefront AGM and follow it up with a MoMoVan BBQ party. Let’s end the Momovan season with a kick-off to summer and a celebration of a great year past.
There will be beer, there will be burgers, there will be awards, games and prizes, there will be entertainment and lots of familiar faces. We will thank the volunteer Board members and elect those who will guide us through the year ahead. Add your vote to elect the new Board members and celebrate the great year we have had. Come and help us kick off the summer.
It all takes place at Nokia (9200 Glenlyon Parkway, Burnaby) 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
