Calling all mobile startups! Join our booth at 4G World!

As you may have heard already, 4G World 2009 will be in town Sept. 15 - 28. There are lots of cool things going on, including workshops, lectures, and of course the Expo (exhibit) hall. Here are a couple of links to learn more:

The good folks who are putting 4G World together have graciously provided MoMo Chicago with a 10×10 booth in the Expo Hall. As an organization whose mission is to help grow the mobile industry in Chicago and the Midwest, the executive committee would like to take advantage of this opportunity to promote local mobile startups.

Here is more information about how your company can participate in 4G World on the cheap:
  • WHO: We are looking for 3 or 4 mobile startups to commit to staffing the booth for both days. Especially encouraged are startups who focus on software, web services, or hardware. Only those startups located in Chicago or the near Midwest will be considered.
  • WHAT: This is a small shared space, so we’ll coordinate sharing tables, space for signs, etc. But please plan on offering demos of your offerings, literature to learn more about your company, etc.
  • WHEN: Two days only — Wed., 9/16, from 12:30 - 7 pm; and Thurs., 9/17, from 12 - 5 pm. Please commit to staffing the entire periods on both days. And please arrive at least an hour early both days to set up.
  • WHERE: McCormick Place convention center, Chicago
  • COST: Free*! Though donations to help cover a few minor costs would be greatly appreciated.
  • HOW: Send Anthony (see below) an email with information about your startup, your offerings, and why you deserve to be included in this cool opportunity. Please send your request by Monday, Aug. 31!!

Please feel free to help spread the word by forwarding this message to friends and colleagues.

Don’t forget - contact Anthony Hand by next Monday, Aug. 31, if you’d like to be considered for a spot in our booth at 4G World 2009!

  • Contact Anthony Hand: anthony [dot] hand [at] gmail [dot] com
P.S. –
A quick post script on the costs: We believe that the booth is being provided to us at no cost. If there end up being any unexpected costs passed to us for having the booth, we may need to pass those along. But as of right now, things look good!

Here’s their info about the conference:

——–

You are in the middle of the mobile data boom. Now make it work for you!

In 2007, mobile data sales in the U.S were $23 billion. In 2009, they’re on target to reach $45 billion. Keep in mind that growth has occurred in just two years — and in the midst of a tough economy. Now imagine if we turn up connection speeds to 100Mbps, then 1Gbps. We believe increased speeds will further expand existing markets.

The much-lauded success of the iPhone, with its 1 billion downloaded apps, is just the tip of an immense iceberg. We believe netbooks and new consumer demand for a wireless web will kindle growth in services, technologies and devices for the communications industry.

Keynotes from Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha and also T-Mobile CTO, Cole Brodman

At Mobilize 09, you will learn about:

  • New insights into a future marketplace with gigabit wireless
  • Innovating mobile products for your customers
  • Strategies for monetization of apps
  • Making the most of mobile analytics for mining new profits
  • The netbook boom and market needs
  • Understanding the future of app delivery stores and distribution
  • How social media like Facebook and Twitter are becoming a core service for mobile consumers
  • The ideas investors are funding and what they are avoiding

See full speaker lineup and topics on our website at: http://mobilizeconf.com/

The folks at GigaOm put together fantastic events, I’ve been to quite a few of them. When it comes to mobile stuff in particular they have a fantastic set of knowledge between all the folks there. Check out the schedule:

Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic (MoMo Mid-Atlantic, www.momo-ma.com) is a non-profit global community of wireless industry professionals. Our goal is to promote a vibrant mobile community from Princeton to Philadelphia to Baltimore. With over 1,000 members joining since it was founded two years ago, Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic is the fastest growing technology networking organization in the Greater Philadelphia area. Our chapter organizes events around wireless mobility featuring industry-leading keynote speakers and panelists. Past events have been attended by 200-400 people to network with other entrepreneurs, executives, students, developers, marketers and professionals and to learn more about mobile marketing and advertising, location based services, next generation wireless, mobile social networks, emerging mobile companies (demo day) and mobile in the enterprise.

The Mobile Monday phenomenon began almost by accident in Helsinki, Finland during the autumn of 2000. A couple of well-known Finnish visionaries invited the who’s who of the Finnish mobile industry to a pub for an informal get-together and a warming drink. The only time suitable for such an event was Monday evening. With agreement to continue these meetings, the movement started to spread to other areas of the world and new MoMo chapters were started in Tokyo, London, Sydney, San Francisco and New York. Today there are over 70 chapters with 70,000 active members around the world.

Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic is an open forum to its members. All individuals and organizations with good standing in the community with a common interest or use of any mobile or wireless technology may participate as members.

Lisa Allen, Brad Blumberg, Rebecca Bottorff, Charles Cleary, Ron Braunfeld, James Drobile, JP Finnell (chair),and Rick Rasansky currently serve on the board of organizers of Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic. ‘Battle of the Smartphones’ turns out crowd for August meetup, despite heat of midsummer Miami

Great turnout for last night’s MoMo Miami meetup … with 73 pre-registered attendees, we had a head count of 60 in the house just 15 minutes into the evening’s program on “The Battle of the Smartphones!”

momomiami-aug-09-amalgam-copy1

Many thanks to Jeff Sass, VP, Bus Dev, Myxer & MoMo Miami Exec Committee member for having suggested a panel topic that turned out so many attendees despite the heat of mid-summer Miami, for his pre-event organization of the panel and for his excellent & amusing introductory history of the smartphone.

Special thanks as well to panel moderator Bridget Carey, Technology Reporter, Miami Herald, for her thoughtful and probing questions of the panelists and directing the Q&A with the audience. And, of course, to the panelists themselves: Policarpo Guerrero, CEO, MSCorp & Open Ovi blog; John Collette, Software Engineer, Myxer; Edwin Hernandez, Principal Staff Software Engineer, Motorola; and Ben Hopkins, Independent iPhone Developer.

Finally, a debt of gratitude to Angelique Swann of the Doubletree Hotel Coconut Grove for having generously provided the meetup venue, with ample space and great views of Coconut Grove and beyond from the 20th floor of the hotel.

Next meetup is scheduled for Thursday September 17th in Coral Gables … with more details on the venue and program to come soon, so stay tuned!

Investment in the Silicon Valley Mobile Industry 1999 – Present

Today Mobile Monday Silicon Valley published a report on the local mobile industry, Investment in the Silicon Valley Mobile Industry 1999 - Present. We found that mobile has become a billion-dollar a year investment sector in Silicon Valley. Check out the report for our findings, like the dramatic increase in mobile acquisitions in 2008 and that 90 mobile companies were funded in the Bay Area alone in 2008. We also found strong growth in mobile companies that sell hardware, ads and platforms, but slower growth than we expected in software development and apps. More fun facts in the report.

We’ll discuss the report at tonight’s MMSV event on Mobile Monetization. Register fast since we only have a few spaces left.
